Because Kids Against Hunger is a volunteer-driven effort, there are many ways to help. Of course, the easiest way is to make a tax-deductible monetary contribution, but when you volunteer your time or resources, that saves us money that can then be applied toward the purchase of more ingredients for food. Some of our needs are great, some are much smaller and easier to fulfill, but every single one of them is needed for us to continue our fight against world starvation.
The single most important thing you can do is to educate yourself on Kids Against Hunger! Additionally, there are specific categories of volunteers that we need to fill to help sustain our workforce. Could you be one of them?
KAHN Liaison: This program takes advantage of schools, businesses, civic groups, etc. that you are currently involved with! The Liaison serves as the contact person for your "group" to educate them on the mission of Kids Against Hunger and how easy it is to make a difference, schedule a fundraiser (think about a penny drive or holiday collection) if appropriate, and schedule your group in at least twice a year to come in and package. This should take just a FEW HOURS of your time annually! Do you have a neighbor, friend, family member that attends a different church or works for a large company that you think would also like to be a Liaison. Remember, this is a community-wide project!
Packaging Supervisor: This is a great position if you love people! When a group comes in to package, the packing supervisor educates the group on Kids Against Hunger - possibly show the video (depending on the age of the group), demonstrates the steps and oversees the packaging session, and then cleanup (groups cleanup after themselves). Sessions last approximately 3-4 hours from start to finish.
Fundraising: Do you have experience or a passion for helping us to raise funds and community awareness for Kids Against Hunger? We are completely volunteer driven, and purchase our own food. We are trying to get creative to keep costs as low as possible, but will need the help of the community of Norfolk! We are looking specifically for business sponsors who can donate monthly to continually have funds coming in the door. We will need door knockers, administrative help, and your contacts!
Public Relations: Do you work for a radio or television station, or have a local contact that you can get excited about Kids Against Hunger? We'll need the coverage to get all Northeast Nebraska involved.
Packaging: Certainly not least - we need volunteers to come in and package our meals! Our first event will be April 12th, and we have a group already scheduled to come. After that, we'll plan two events a month. We will accommodate groups during different times as long as we can get volunteers for those times. Sessions are 2 hours, and we would like to get a group of around 12 - 50 people at any given time.
